ECOSYS® Printer Technology Good For the Environment and Your Bottom Line
Kyocera recognizes the burden that business activities can place on the environment. We strive to maintain a clear vision in pursuing a harmonious balance between economic development and environmental preservation. Kyocera operates under the following strict, group-wide environmental preservation measures:
Kyocera’s Environmental Charter, established in 1991, is a commitment to environmental preservation activities on a daily basis.
- Ozone layer protection
- Waste reduction
- Energy and resource conversation
Kyocera Group’s Green Committee, established in 2004, oversees the management of reducing the environmental impact across a product’s lifecycle.
ECOSYS® Technology and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
Kyocera’s objective is to manufacture superior products with a low Total Cost of Ownership(TCO), and have little or no impact
on the environment. Kyocera’s ECOSYS® Technology provides customers with a printing solution that incorporates long life consumables and the low cost per print. Kyocera’s ECOSYS printers include a durable imaging system using long-life drums, Organic Photoconductor (OPC) and Kyocera’s patented Amorphous Silicon (ASi), capable of handling up to hundreds of thousands of prints. These long-lasting drums are distinctly separate from the toner, eliminating the need to replace the drum when toner is depleted. The operating costs of traditional “cartridge-based” page printers can easily exceed many times the original purchase price during the life of the product. By utilizing Kyocera’s proprietary ECOSYS Technology, businesses can typically recoup a printer’s purchase price in one-year or less.
By eliminating the need to continually replace cartridges, ECOSYS printers do their part in helping reduce environmental waste – an added benefit for companies looking to enhance their environmental initiatives.
Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
A printer’s initial acquisition cost represents just one aspect of its Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). With cartridge-based printers, consumable costs can easily exceed many times the original purchase price during the life of the product. We invite you to utilize our web-based TCO Tracker to analyze the operating costs of your current printers. Kyocera’s TCO Tracker uses independent data from Current Analysis Inc., a competitive market intelligence firm, to help companies establish a comprehensive comparison of the true running costs associated with their printers.
ECOSYS technology also offers cost saving benefits in color printing. Independent researchers have determined that Kyocera’s ECOSYS color printers have a low Total Cost of Ownership(TCO), with costs per color page averaging well below the competition.
ISO 14001 is an internationally accepted specification for an Enviornmental Management System(EMS). It specifies requirements for establishing an environmental policy, determining environmental aspects and impacts of products/activities/services, planning environmental objectives and measurable targets, implementation and operation of programs to meet objectives and targets, checking and corrective action, and management review.
The ISO 14001 environmental management standards exist to help organizations:
- Minimize how their operations (processes, etc.) negatively affect the environment (i.e. cause adverse changes to air, water, or land)
- Comply with applicable laws, regulations, and other environmentally oriented requirements
- Continually improve in the above
Kyocera strives to certify all of its manufacturing plants and non-manufacturing facilities throughout the world to the ISO 14001 standard.
- Reduce our energy and material consumption by reusing items and recycling when possible
- Reduce the environmental impact associated with our products and activities
- Comply with applicable local, state and federal regulatory requirements
- Periodically review the objectives and targets of our environmental management system to reduce waste and the consumption of materials, energy and resources
- Continually improve our performance strategy to prevent pollution whenever possible
- Communicate and train our employees, and those who work directly on our behalf, to carry out our environmental policies
- Make our Environmental Policy available to the public
Kyocera's voluntary partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ensures our products meet the high standards
